Hello, Friends and Family!
Today is Fé’s 6-Month Birthday!!!! I know I keep saying this, but time is flying by! It seems like just yesterday that she was born, yet when I look back at pictures it seems like forever ago that she was that small!

The past six months have been full of exciting changes, adventures, and experiences. Fé is absolutely AMAZING and both Daniël and I are so proud to be her parents. (Doesn’t every parent say that?!)
She is so calm and has such an amazing temperament. Rarely does she get angry or upset, but when she does, she lets the whole house know!! She is the happiest baby and she brings such an incredible amount of Joy into our lives every single day.
I love waking up to her babbling away in her crib. I love watching her rock back and forth on her knees getting ready to try to crawl! I love watching her discover her feet and explore her hands. I love watching her study her toys, discover sounds, and experience tastes for the first time!
We are starting baby-led weaning and I am so excited for her to learn and discover new foods. So far she LOVES her bananas and cucumbers and tolerates her baby rice cereal. Today we are going to try some mashed up peas for the first time (wish us luck!) So far, she doesn’t eat a whole lot. She mostly just grabs her food, plays with it a little bit, mashes it around in her hands and then finally finds her mouth. With the bananas and cucumbers, she just keeps licking them and knawing on them a little bit. The banana she will really start biting and trying to chew and swallow some. I guess as for right now our main goal with baby-led weaning is to just introduce her to the idea of eating solid foods and to have her experience as many tastes, textures, and consistencies as possible.
No teeth yet, although she has been a little bit fussier than normal and has been chewing like a monster! I am guessing she will pop her first tooth sometime soon.
She has mastered the art of rolling back and forth. She has learned to push herself backward and she can turn herself around in a full circle while she is on her belly. Even though she isn’t crawling yet, she is very mobile. When I put her on her play mat she can sometimes end up on the other side of the room if I am not paying attention!
Her sleep is gradually getting better. She normally only wakes up once in the night to feed, with the exception of when she had diaper rash, and most of the time she falls back asleep right away. We actually stopped dream feeding her and she started sleeping better! Up until now, we have just fed her on demand, but now that she is a little bit older, I am trying to stick to a more rigid feeding schedule and so far it seems to be working quite well. I hope that by sticking to a schedule, Fé will get enough food during the day and will be able to sleep for a longer period of time during the night!
Last night she slept from 11:30 pm-7:30 am (WOOHOO!!) which also means Daniël and I got 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep!! Let’s not jinx it, but I really hope this starts to become the norm.
Right now our current schedule looks a little bit like this:
7:30 am: Wake up and feeding #1
9:00 am -10:30 am: Nap Time
10:30 am: Feeding #2
12:00 pm: Lunch Time!!! This is when we normally sit down together and try new foods =)
12:00 pm- 1:30 pm: Nap Time
1:30 pm: Feeding #3
3:00 pm- 4:30 pm: Nap Time
4:30 pm: Feeding #4
5:00 pm- 5:30 pm: Nap Time (I have found that she needs one more nap during the day or she will not make it all the way until bedtime)
7:00 pm Bedtime & Feeding #5
Anywhere from 11:30 pm- 2:00 am: Feeding #6
*This is a very ideal version of our daily schedule. Very rarely does our day actually look like this but this is the schedule that I try to stick to. I normally have activities and/or appointments during the day that may disrupt feeding times or nap times and we are very flexible with our schedule!
*I have also found that Fé needs a lot of naps during the day. If she doesn’t have anough sleep during the day she is a nightmare during the night! I know a lot of parents who don’t let their children sleep past 4:00 pm or 4:30 pm, but I find that Fé NEEDS that last nap just to tide her over until bedtime. If she doesn’t get that last nap we end up putting her to bed around 6:00 pm or 6:30 pm. When she does this, however, she won’t take her last feeding, which throws the whole night off!

Mommy and Daddy
How are we coping with parenthood? Our lives have been turned upside-down, but for the better. Parenthood is really hard and nothing can prepare you for it. I think Daniël and I both agree that the hardest part is the lack of sleep. Although we are used to it now, and Fé is sleeping so much better, we still feel as though we are ALWAYS TIRED.
Another difficulty of parenthood is that we don’t ever get a break. We are so lucky to live with Daniël’s mom and step-father, so we have the freedom to go to the gym in the evenings and occasionally go out by ourselves. But parenthood is a 24/7 job. You can’t just step away from being a parent and take a 3-hour nap. Regardless, Fé fits into our lives very well. We love being a family and spending time all together, except a date night every once in a while is nice 😉
