Friday Favorites #1

Hello Everyone!

So Millennial Mommy is back in full force with my new Friday Favorites series. Tune in every Friday to check out what we have been up to and to see my favorite things from the week! This week we are back in the Netherlands for Daniels US Visa interview and his Medical Check. These are the final steps to getting Daniels Visa before we (hopefully) move back to the states in January!

This week I also attended an ‘International Mom Group’ where I met some other awesome international English speaking mums in the area around where we live in The Netherlands! It was great to get away from the farm and talk to some other mommies! It was also so good for Fé to get out and be a bit social =)

As for my favorites this week….

Friday Favorites

My skin tends to get really dull and dry when the weather gets colder so I ordered this face oil as per the recommendation of Julie over at Peanut Butter Fingers, and I am sooo happy with it! I mix a little bit in with my normal Vanicream moisturizer and I feel like it has taken my skin to the next level! I feel like I have that ‘glow’ that I have been looking for!!

  • Spending Time with Family

Friday Favorites #1

Since we have been back in The Netherlands, we have been seeing a lot of Daniels family. We are trying to see everyone as much as possible since we will be moving to the States soon and who knows how long it will be before we get to see everyone again! I am so grateful that Fé has been able to get to know her great-grandparents on Daniels Father’s side of the Family. We have been seeing them twice a week since we have gotten back and it is such a joy to watch Fé bond with them!

Last Tuesday, we went over to Daniels brothers place for dinner. I wanted to bring something for dessert so I whipped up this super quick and super yummy cinnamon bread that I found over here at Genius Kitchen. It requires very little ingredients (everything I already had in my pantry) and turned out great!

  • American Horror Story

Friday Favorites #1

So, we are probably super late to the party here but Daniel and I have just started watching American Horror Story and we are totally obsessed! We have been binge watching it every night and are already in Season 3 (kind of embarrassing how fast we have watched it!) If you are looking for a new series to pick up I 100% recommend American Horror Story! What TV series are you guys watching these days?

So, as many of you know, we have left England and gone back to The Netherlands for just a few months while we finish Daniels Visa process. This means I am without a gym for a few months! I didn’t want to let my fitness game slip so I decided to download the Freeletics fitness app so I could continue to train without the gym. The app customizes quick 10-30 minute bodyweight workouts for your body type, condition, etc. The workouts are, to say the least, REALLY TOUGH! I am on week two and I have already started to notice a difference in my abs and legs! IF you are looking for a great way to train at home I encourage you to try Freeletics!! They also have a running and nutrition app that I have read great reviews about but have not them myself =)

We LOVE Usborne’s Touchy-Feely Books! Fé is just at the perfect age where she can appreciate flipping the board-book pages, and feeling all the different textured sections of each page. Unfortunately, I think they are not as widely available in the US as they are in the UK, but they do stock a few at Bed Bath and Beyond!

Hope you all have a good weekend! See you all next week!

I See Me Review and the Importance of Reading to your baby!

Hey, Everyone! It has been a while since I have posted anything! We went on a big road trip from the Uk to Munich, Germany (where Daniel had a work meeting) and then to Seville, Spain where we stayed in a lovely Villa with Daniel’s family. It was a blast, but driving for days on end with a 6-month old is no picnic! Despite having a few mental breakdowns along the way, sitting next to the pool underneath the Spanish sun did us all some good. It was Fé’s first holiday (besides going back and forth between The Netherlands and the UK) so I will have an update for you soon!

Anyway, when we got back home, we had received a wonderful personalized book in the mail from I See Me.

I See Me Review

I See Me is an award-winning company that creates personalized books and gifts for children and babies. Each book is unique and personalized with the child’s name and pictures. They have even been featured on The Today Show, Entertainment Weekly, Parents Magazine, and The Wall Street Journal!

I See Me Review

There are TONS of different books to choose from but I choose the book called “F is for Fé” in the pink color. When we first received the book it exceeded my expectations! The front of the book features a special little note dedicated to Fé and includes a picture of her that I had sent to the company when I ordered the book.

The book works its way through the alphabet and you can find little “F’s” and “Fé’s” hidden all among the pages.

In addition, the illustrations are absolutely BEAUTIFUL. It is illustrated by Nicola Slater who is a well-known children’s book illustrator and she really brings the pages of this book to life! Although the characters in this book aren’t personalized to look like Fé, there are other books where the characters even resemble your little one!

I See Me also sells personalized stickers, puzzles, lunch boxes, placemats, music, growth charts, and stuffed animals. It makes a great gift for children of all ages; from birth and throughout childhood.

I try to make a point of reading to Fé every night before she goes down to bed. Of course, I don’t think she understands any of the story, and she spends most of the time trying to grab the pages and put them in her mouth! Regardless I wanted to start reading to her from a very young age because there are so many benefits!

Benefits of Reading to your Infant

  1. It develops baby’s language skills | While Fé doesn’t actually understand the story she still picks up on rhythm, intonation, and vocabulary while I read to her which is so important for her to develop her own language skills!
  2. Increases Vocabulary | Reading to your baby introduces them to a variety of different vocabulary words which will help expand their vocabulary as they learn to talk
  3. Develops Listening skills |Babies learn to listen to the sound of your voice as you read to them
  4. Helps baby with their attention span | When you read to baby and they start to follow along with your voice it may help them develop a longer attention span.
  5. Bonding time | I Love sitting down with Fé in the evening and looking at a book with her for 15 minutes. It helps quiet her down before bed and it has become a special little moment that we share together
  6. Makes bedtime easier | Having a calming routine before bedtime can signal to your baby that it is time to go to sleep. This will help your baby sleep better in the long run. Story time before bed is the perfect way to help your little one wind down and relax after a long day of playing!

Having a personalized book to read to Fé makes story time so much more fun! I know that she will enjoy her I See Me book for years to come! They also make the perfect gift for any occasion and I plan on gifting them to some of my family and friends =)
